Grades 1-2 Book Club

Wednesday, October 7 at 3:00 p.m.

On the Lawn at the Library*

For October's Book Club, we will be reading I Survived the Battle of Gettysburg by Lauren Tarshis.

"It's 1863, and Thomas and his little sister, Birdie, have fled the farm where they were born and raised as slaves. Following the North Star, looking for freedom, they soon cross paths with a Union soldier. Everything changes: Corporal Henry Green brings Thomas and Birdie back to his regiment, and suddenly it feels like they've found a new home. Best of all, they don't have to find their way north alone--they're marching with the army. But then orders come through: the men are called to battle in Pennsylvania. Thomas has made it so far... but does he have what it takes to survive Gettysburg?"

For those new to Book Club, at each session, the kids vote on a book to read together for the next month. Miss Lisa then orders enough copies of that book through the Ocean State Libraries consortium. You then pick up the book at the library (usually a week after the last book club) and check it out on your library card. Books are never due before Book Club.

Please be sure to register for Book Club so Miss Lisa knows how many snacks to provide. You may register in person at the library or email Miss Lisa at jamlibkids@gmail.com.

*In case of inclement weather, we will be meeting via Zoom. Instructions and passwords will be emailed by 1:00 p.m. the day of Book Club.
