by Captain Bill Palmer

The Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association will conduct its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Jamestown Philomenian Library (Large Meeting Room) at 7:00 pm. After a brief business meeting and the election of new officers, BLMA members and the public are invited to hear Captain Bill Palmer's presentation on his book titled The Last Battle of the Atlantic-The Sinking of the U-853, sponsered by Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association and the Jamestown Philomenian Library.

Mr. Palmer is a licensed Coast Guard Captain. He has had over thirty year of experience diving wrecks on the eastern seaboard. He is also an avid historian and underwater videographer. U-853 was one of World War ll's last casualties. She lies 7 miles east of Block Island, Rhode Island in 130 feet of water. Through numerous interviews Captain Palmer gives additional insight into what happened aboard this ill-fated ship. He also gives advice to divers about visiting this site.
