Gilded Age Fashions of Newport Summer Residents

The Friends of Jamestown Library Present: Gilded Age Fashions of Newport Summer Residents

If you could travel through time to see how the rich dressed when they summered in Newport, what would you find? Join fashion maven Ren Antonowicz to discover Newport's Gilded Age fashions.

When the weather got warm, Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt left New York City for their summer cottage. Of course, only the rich called them cottages. To most people, they're know as the Newport Mansions.

See how Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt were dressed as they traipsed about their mansion, what their guests were wearing, and the clothing the rest of the moneyed class were sporting on their Newport estates.

Ren Antonowicz is the owner of Nostalgia Providence, an antiques and collectables shop on Wickenden Street, where she lectures on all eras of fashion history. She's also a regular speaker at libraries, schools, and historical societies throughout the region.
