Learning at the Library: The Art of Collage

Learning at the Library: The Art of Collage

Craft Program: March 8 - April 12

Description:

"The world of collage is like an amusement park with something for everyone, from the dignified round of a carousel to wild ups and downs on a roller coaster." (Creative Collage Techniques)

Learn the basics of the art of collage through five "grab-and-go" projects. Each week you will explore a different technique as you create fun and exciting designs. The project bag will contain everything you need, including papers, images, and glue.

Collage has been described as the most accessible art medium for people of all ages. You don't need drawing or technical skills to begin so you can jump right in and create. By the end of the five weeks, you will be ready to share your masterpiece with others.

Registration and Materials:

We ask that you register for this series so that we can be sure to have adequate materials each week. Registration is for the full series (five weeks).

Schedule:

Week 1 (March 8): WHO are YOU?? (Combine facial and body features from two or more images to create a new "creature." Let yourself play! No rules allowed!)

Week 2 (March 15): Color and Shape (Learn how to use the color wheel as you play with creating monochromatic images, then see the magic that happens as you cut your work into different shapes.)

Week 3 (March 22): New Ways of Seeing: Pattern and Repetition (What happens when you use mirror images or turn an image upside down, or repeat images? Take your collaging to a new level as you play with some unexpected formats.)

Week 4 (March 29): Typography as a Design Element (Use letters and numbers to create a design.)

Week 5 (April 5): Create your Masterpiece! (Choose from one of the five themes provided in this week's bag, decide what you want to see about the theme, then use the techniques you've learned to create your unique piece of art. Bring your completed piece to the Library to be included in a special display.)
