It's that time of year again...Summer Reading! There will be 3 challenges: one for Grades PreK-4, one for Grades 5-12 and one for Adults.
The Summer Reading Challenges will run through the Jamestown Philomenian Library from June 22 through August 29. Due to Covid-19, the program will look a little different this year. We have all of the same fun reading activities but logging will be done online, on the Beanstack module. Check it out here: https://jamestownphilomenianlibrary.beanstack.com/reader365 Please read the poster below for registration instructions.
Each of the challenges encourages you to complete at least 5 activity badges (read a book with a color in the title, read a book by a debut author, read outside, etc.). You will be awarded tickets for each activity that you complete. These tickets can then be entered into prize drawings for the various challenges, including prizes such as gift cards to local businesses, Kindle Fire tablets and Lego Minecraft building sets. The more activities you complete, the more chances you have to win!
The statewide Rhode Island Summer Reading Program is supported by the RI Office of Library and Information Services, with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Local support includes RI Children's and Young Adult Librarians. Special thanks to the Friends of the Jamestown Library for their financial support.
The Jamestown Philomenian Library is excited to be partnering again with the Jamestown Schools in order to increase the scope and significance of the Summer Reading Program. Research has shown that children who read six or more books during the summer maintain or improve their reading skills, while children who do not lose ground by September.
