A teacher shows people how to paint a specific painting using step by step instructions. She breaks the painting down in a way that literally anyone can understand, and encourages "freestyling" or going off in their own direction if they choose to once they feel comfortable and everyone walks away with their own masterpiece, a new skill, and most importantly confidence!
Henna by Heather
Come and learn all about henna, a beautiful, natural form of body art that is used throughout the world in cultural celebrations! Each attendee will have a custom henna design created by a professional henna artist. Visit HennaByHeather.com for more details.
The Providence Children's Film Festival summer program is much more than watching movies. After viewing an international short film, teen participants will learn about the language of film and participate in creating their own film project that shares their voices about how they might "build a better world". We hope to combine each participating library's teen film project into a collective film that showcases the many better world building ideas of youth across Rhode Island.
RI Museum of Science and Art (RIMOSA)
Exploring artist and inventor Samuel Morse, the inventor of Morse code, you will experiment, learn, and create artwork with binary code. Binary codes is the basis of all computer language.
Working in teams, students will learn coding to instruct a simple robot to move objects in construction challenges. We will provide a hands on workshop using a Raspberry PI. The Pi programming environment allows you to do many things with a tiny credit-card-sized computer! You will also learn about programmable electronics for making lights blink, motors run and a lot more. The set-up is easy for beginners, challenging for experienced programmers and fun for everyone!
An introduction to hand sewing. Tweens and teens will learn 3-4 basic embroidery stitches, then design their own piece of art using a light box, pens, embroidery hoop and thread. All materials are provided, and students go home with a piece of art and supplies to create more on their own.
