Kids Book Clubs

Book Clubs meet on Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. Come join us after school for an hour of interesting book talk and snacks!

  • The next meeting of the Grades 1-2 Book Club will be held on Wednesday, November 1 at 3:00 p.m. We will be discussing My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett.

"A young boy runs away from home to rescue an abused baby dragon held captive to serve as a free twenty-four hour, seven-days-a-week ferry for the lazy wild animals living on Wild Island."

  • The next meeting of the Grades 3-4 Book Club will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 4:00 p.m. Please note the date and time change from the norm! We will be discussing The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.

"Once, in a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who adored him completely. And then, one day, he was lost. Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. Along the way, we are shown a miracle – that even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again."- amazon.com

  • The next meeting of the Grades 5-6 Book Club will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m. We will be discussing Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery.

"Anne, an eleven-year-old orphan, is sent by mistake to live with a lonely, middle-aged brother and sister on a Prince Edward Island farm, and proceeds to make an indelible impression on everyone around her."

  • The first meeting of the Grades 7 and Up Book Club will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at 3:00 p.m. We will be discussing Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys.

""As World War II draws to a close, refugees try to escape the war's final dangers, only to find themselves aboard a ship with a target on its hull."

We discuss the book for roughly 45 minutes, while Miss Lisa blogs our conversation, and spend the last 15 minutes voting on a book to read for the next book club.

Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk. Please be sure to register so that Miss Lisa knows how many snacks to buy!
